Research the ff : term :
1.Booting: Restarting a computer or its operating system software .

2.GUI: graphical user interface (GUI, sometimes pronounced gooey) is a type of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices with images rather than text commands.

3.Linux: is a computer operating system which is based on free and open source software

4.Macintosh OS: is a series of graphical user interface-based operating systems developed by Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer, Inc.) for their Macintosh line of computer systems. The Macintosh user experience is credited with popularizing the graphical user interface.

5.MS-OS: is an operating system for x86-based personal computers

6.Multitasking: is a method where multiple tasks, also known as processes, share common processing resources such as a CPU

7.NOS:the primary operating system for the Control Data Corporation Cyber line of mainframe computers

8.OS:is software, consisting of programs and data, that runs on computers, manages computer hardware resources, and provides common services for execution of various application software

9. System Software: computer software designed to operate the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software.

10.Application Software: is computer software designed to help the user to perform specific tasks.
11.UNIX:The Unix operating system was first developed in assembly language, but by 1973 had been almost entirely recoded in C, greatly facilitating its further development and porting to other hardware.

12.Utility Programs:A program that performs a specific task related to the management of computer functions, resources, or files, as password.

13.Windows: is a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft.

14.Windows CE:is an operating system developed by Microsoft for embedded systems. Windows CE is a distinct operating system and kernel, rather than a trimmed-down version of desktop Windows.

15.Windows Mobile: is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft that was used in smartphones and mobile devices, but by 2011 was rarely supplied on new phones.

DIFFERENTIATE: MAC VS WINDOWS VS UNix

Mac OS X is a Unix-like operating system developed by Apple for their Mac hardware line. Windows is a series of operating systems, running their own proprietary kernel, that is developed by Microsoft...
while the UNIX  is a family of operating systems designed to run in a mainframe environment.

IT111-LAB Exercise

1. Students use a search engine to find information about who invented the microprocessor.
Ans=
Back in 1968, Hoff, the inventor of the microprocessor, was one of the first twelve employees at Intel tasked to be a researcher for new technology. He was made a part of the task force that was responsible for circuit integration for a Japanese based manufacturer of desktop calculators. Armed with his background in computer technology, the researcher went on to develop the concept and design for the actual microprocessor later that same year.
Hoff invented the first microprocessor... but it was not until years later that the first microcomputer would be seen.
2. Students investigate the computer’s power management settings and create a report on what they discover.
Ans=
Whether you are using a Mac or PC, a laptop or a desktop, your computer has power-management features that can help you save money, reduce your impact on the environment, and extend the life of your hardware.
3. Create a list of components and features that the student should consider when purchasing a computer. They then explain why they made these selections.
Ans=
  • CPU (Central Processing Unit)
  • motherboard
  • case
  • RAM (Random Access Memory
  • Disk Controller
  • Hard Disk Drive
  • Floppy Disk Drive
  • Video Display Adapter
  • Monitor
  • Input Device
  • Modem
  • Printer
  • Optional Equipment
When you buy computer components it is good practice to buy them from good known sources. This will ensure that your products will be shipped on time, shipped in the proper packaging and if a problem arrises you will have good customer support to help you out.
4. Students are  to prepare a report on solid-state storage and how it works.
Ans=A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data with the intention of providing access in the same manner of a traditional block i/o hard disk drive.

 5. Students are to investigate teleconferencing technology
 Ans=
Teleconferencing technology has provided businesses with an entirely new way of communicating over long distances.
6. Students are to compare solid-state storage to magnetic and optical storage media. They are to express an opinion indicating whether they think solid-state storage will replace the other types of storage.
Ans=Magnetic storage uses different patterns of magnetization in a magnetizable material to store data and is a form of non-volatile memory. The information is accessed using one or more read/write heads. As of 2009, magnetic storage media, primarily hard disks, are widely used to store computer data as well as audio and video signals. In the field of computing, the term magnetic storage is preferred and in the field of audio and video production, the term magnetic recording is more commonly used.
Optical media - such as the compact disk (CD) - are storage media that hold content in digital form and that are written and read by a laser;
these media include all the various CD and DVD variations, as well as optical jukeboxes and auto changers. Optical media have a number of advantages over magnetic media such as the floppy disk. Optical disk capacity ranges up to 6 gigabytes; that's 6 billion bytes compared to the 1.44 megabytes (MB) - 1,440,000 bytes - of the floppy. One optical disk holds about the equivalent of 500 floppies worth of data.

    Goal Quotes

I know what I want to accomplish and I know how to get there. The ultimate goal is to be the best. Whether that’s the best ever, who knows ? I hope so.

    Friendship Quotes

A friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be somewhere else.
Only your real friends tell you when your face is dirty.
